Vegas family warns “swatting” is a real danger after Minecraft game

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – A Las Vegas family comes out to raise awareness about a phenomenon known as “swatting” after Las Vegas police pulled them out at gunpoint in response to a bogus call to ugly.

It happened to well-known celebrities and it even ended in a deadly shootout by the police in Kasas; the swatting is real and it happens.

A mother from Las Vegas tells 13 Investigates that her 15-year-old daughter enjoys playing the popular game Minecraft.

The game is one of the most popular and successful in history with over 200 million copies sold and 126 million active players worldwide each month.

The goal is to survive and create the universe you want your character to live in.

The game is popular with people of all ages, but it is a hit with young minor children.

Some users simultaneously use a separate chat platform to communicate.

“A lot of kids use Discord. It’s a chat server. That way, they can talk to the people they’re playing Minecraft with, without other people hearing their conversations or seeing their chat,” explained the mother we’ll call “Jane.”

Jane says her daughter struck up a conversation with an allegedly 18-year-old boy.

The conversation turned sexual when he demanded that she send pictures of herself naked, then made threatening requests.

“It’s not a request at this point,” read one of the chats provided to 13 investigators.

“I don’t want to show you [my genitalia]Jane’s daughter replied.

Other messages said there would be consequences if she didn’t comply.

“She came over and said she had been threatened with swatting and I never heard of swatting,” Jane said.

“She explained that this is when the SWAT team comes because someone called a bogus distress call and a SWAT team is at your house and knocking on the door,” Jane added. .

Swatting is a very real danger as we saw in 2017.

Police have been dispatched to the home of a man in Wichita Kansas for an urgent call for help.

Investigators say the incident stems from an argument over an online video game bet.

Officers who responded shot dead Andrew Finch, 28, after fearing he would reach his belt.

Finch, a father, was unarmed.

Celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher have also been at the center of overwhelming incidents.

Jane’s daughter was terrified of this happening to her when the guy on the other end revealed that he knew the family’s real Las Vegas address.

Jane called the Las Vegas police but was surprised by the reaction.

“I was told that was not enough information to report, that it was vague, and it is not a crime for anyone to know your address,” explained Jane.

Jane says the police did not take a report, but nine days later, on July 29, another surprise.

“We were sitting around our house and my boyfriend came out of the bedroom and said ‘well, I think I heard police activity telling someone to put their hands up and come out,’ Jane said.

The family came out to investigate and came face to face with Las Vegas police outside their home.

“They had their guns pointed at us, their guns pointed at us and they said to my boyfriend, ‘yes you in the red shirt put your hands up then walk over to us,’ Jane said.

The family were evicted, one by one at gunpoint according to Jane, and then the SWAT team entered the house and cleaned up the premises.

“Finally, at that time, we were told that someone had made a phone call, not to 911, but to a desk phone in one of the local offices saying that someone had been shot in inside our house, ”said Jane.

“At that point a light bulb went out and I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s exactly what my daughter said was going to happen’, that’s exactly what I said. tried to report to them, to prevent that from happening, ”Jane added. .

Jane believes that since the call was not made to the official 911 number, the call for help was not recorded.

Jane thinks the fag lives outside the US, possibly in the UK

“In 2011 there were only 400 reported SWAT incidents in the United States, in 2019 we exceeded 1,000,” said Jon Wolfe, CEO of Axiom Cyber Solutions.

Wolfe says the fagots are using means of masking their IP addresses, which are the online equivalent of a fingerprint, and are using chat bots to further block their real identities.

All of this makes it difficult for anyone to know who or where they are.

The dark web, says Wolfe, is fertile ground for like-minded people to take action.

“Sometimes there are people who don’t necessarily know how to do it and they go to these forums and you can actually hire someone to do it for you if you don’t have the technical ability to do it,” he said. Wolfe said.

Jane says her daughter blocked the villain right after the sex conversations, but that didn’t stop the SWAT team or the police response days later.

Jane reported the incident to Discord, but the platform responded that there was nothing they could do without the actual message links and would not accept screenshots, screen recordings, or chat bots. .

Jane says she lives in fear.

“So many kids are spending time online, especially with the school starting online and the only reason I accepted is [to grant 13 Investigates an interview] It was because I think parents should know that stuff like this happens, ”explained Jane.

13 Investigators asked Las Vegas Police for details about the incident, but we were told the details were part of an ongoing investigation.

Seattle Police have created their own crash database that logs the addresses of people who have reported crash threats against them.
