Starbase, the EVE Online-meets-Minecraft game, is looking for more alpha testers

Starbase struck us as an “EVE Online-Minecraft hybrid” when it was announced by studio Trine Frozenbyte in mid-2019, and it certainly promised great things: building entire spaceships and stations out of it. building blocks, exploring the stars, forming corporations, and waging war (because you always end up waging war, don’t you?) in a very destructible universe.

An Early Access version on Steam was supposed to take place that year, but that hasn’t happened and still hasn’t happened. Work continued, however, and according to the latest trailer, it has come a long way, far enough that Frozenbyte is now looking for more alpha testers.

There’s still a long way to go, of course: The concept of alphas and betas has been blurred over the years, but Starbase is still in its infancy. “During Closed Alpha, the game will often crash and many features are missing or not fully functional – the game is not yet ready for the majority of players,” Frozenbyte warned. “For most players, we recommend creating a Wish List on Steam, that way you will be notified when the game enters Early Access.”

But if that doesn’t put you off, you can sign up to take the tests here. (If you’ve signed up before, you don’t need to do it again – all previously entered names stay in the hat.) Alpha invitations will be sent out in “moderate amounts” to begin with, but the numbers should increase. increase significantly over the next two months so that Frozenbyte can “properly test the game with a massive number of players” ahead of the release of Early Access, which is now slated to take place in early 2021.

While you’re waiting for that, you can get a closer look at what Starbase is all about at, and there’s also a Discord server you can jump into.
