Roblox’s Game Fund games aren’t like most Roblox titles

Last July, Roblox announced the game funda program that provides developers with funding and support for Roblox experiences. At the Game Developers Conference this week, the company is using these funded games to showcase the range of experiences possible with its tools.

There are a few parts to what Roblox is announcing on Tuesday. The first is that Roblox reveals for the first time that it is investing $25 million as part of the Game Fund. Roblox previously said it would give away a minimum of $500,000 each Roblox the experience he selected for the Game Fund, but now we know how much will be distributed in total.

Roblox has already announced three games supported by the fund — Winds of Fortune, rolling thunderand NeonKnights — and he shares “first looks” at two such experiences on Tuesday. Winds of Fortunefrom developer Sonar Studios, looks a bit like Microsoft’s sea of thieveswith sea battles, mysterious islands and even a giant sea serpent creature. rolling thunderfrom Splitting Point Studios, is a first-person shooter.

I recommend you check them both out in a trailer below – I was struck by how they don’t have many blocks Roblox aesthetic you may be familiar with. Roblox tells me they’re each in pre-alpha, which to me means some parts of the game might change as development continues. If you want to try rolling thunder right now it is available for free at Roblox – although in my five minutes of testing I found it to be a fairly rudimentary military shooter.

Finally, Roblox unveils three additional games that have received Game Fund support: Ruin of the projecta competitive PvE roguelike; Riota team-based multiplayer FPS (which is also available to try Roblox, even though it crashed every time I tried to join a game on my iPhone); and secret neighbora Robloxversion based on multiplayer game which is currently available on PC and consoles.

Jad Boniface, who leads the Game Fund at Roblox, said The edge in an interview that there’s a bigger list of games that have been greenlit, but “we’re just not ready to share any details about those additional games just yet.” And Roblox plans to keep fund applications open until July, Boniface told me, so it looks like there are still possibilities for games to be chosen for support. As for a second fund, “we hope the results of this Game Fund will lead to a second Game Fund, but it’s still too early to tell,” Boniface said.
