Four of Ally’s interns took on the challenge of designing a fun and educational way to teach money and finance. Fintropolis, a Minecraft world that teaches you financial concepts, was born two years later.
The cost of education in the United States has continued to rise. Less than a quarter of adults aged 18 to 54 can answer basic personal finance questions, creating a need for new priorities in financial education. Four of Ally’s classmates focused on this, and after two years the project was given the name Fintropolis.
Fintropolis has roots in Detroit
Fintropolis was created by Martin, Perry, Smith, and Tyner in collaboration with Ally’s Ideation Lab, TM Studio, and video game developer Blockworks. By exploring the environment of Fintropolis, players learn how to make money, pay taxes, budget, create credit, manage debt, and invest.
They are also introduced to various professions and how early financial decisions can influence their fate. Minecraft: Education Edition also includes course material to help students relate Fintropolis money ideas to the school curriculum.
The four Trainee Creators from Fintropolis originally met in Detroit as participants in the 2019 Moguls in the Making, a business pitch competition presented by Ally, Big Sean’s Sean Anderson Foundation and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. .
âThey came up with a boss solution,â Big Sean said. “Fintropolis is just one example of what HBCU students can do when they have the resources and the platform to make their dreams come true.”
Fintropolis is one of the best solutions to the problem of financial education. Even if it is a Minecraft card, this does not mean that adults cannot take advantage of the card and learn about finance.
The great relevance of the map created by the Ally trainees is that, not only the current generations will benefit from it, but the greatest beneficiaries will be the future generations since they will have family members and teachers who, thanks to Fintropolis , will be able to transfer all the knowledge acquired in the card to the youth of tomorrow.
For all those Minecraft users or schools that have Minecraft: Education Edition, they can use Fintropolis completely free of charge. For more information on the card, click here.
